View from My Camera – Ruth

Ruth is the niece of our best friends.  We just love all of their family.  I was able to photograph her older brother when he was born and then when he was one.  And now I was honored to photograph the newest addition to their family.  She looks just like her big brother, but much prettier!

Creating the House – Trim

Here are pictures from the finished trim.  This is getting exciting!!!  Starting tomorrow, the tile layers and painters will be here.  So, I should have some dramatically different pictures by the end of the week.  Or at least I hope!  And maybe we will have cabinet decisions made.  One could only dream!!  ;)  So here is what our house looks like as of tonight…

So, I have said before that when I am out taking pictures of the house, I will look down and see one of my daughters ready for their picture to be taken.  And this day wasn’t any different from any others…  here is Louie posing like she did for her dance recital pictures.  Oh, and for those of you asking, yes she dressed herself:  a dress that she wore for her two year old birthday party, another skirt and a red bow.

Here is a look down the sunroom, through the hallway and into the guest bedroom.  Trim is all in and Louie is still posing.  To the left is our breakfast area and this wall is only temporary.  See the thin layer of plastic separating us from the construction?!

Here is our master bedroom and Louie posing…

Well, here is our hallway looking into the right side of the fireplace and into our den (through our other thin sheet of protection).  There is now a door into the utility room.  I am thrilled about this addition.  Oh, and do you like the style of the doors?  I tried to stick with a mid-century modern look.

Think back to past posts and try to remember what this wall used to look like.  The wall straight ahead was the back of our house and there used to be two windows looking into the existing master bedroom (Dewey’s future bedroom).  You wouldn’t be able to tell that now.  They had to drill through the brick to get all of the electrical in (that was the loudest by far!!), and now you wouldn’t be able to tell what it used to be.  How exciting!!

Creating the House

We are so close to the end and we are so excited!!!  Well, at least close to the end of the work on the addition.  In July we will begin the work on the existing space and I think that will be the hardest.  But the schedule has worked out amazingly and we are able to go on vacation for two weeks while the messiest work will be done indoors.  Yippee!!!  Here are some pictures from the latest progress…

Before and after of the exterior siding…

Before and after of interior doors…

Day in the life:  a little bit of basketball (OK, a lot of basketball!)…

… a little bit of riding bikes and/or scooters…

… and “loving” on Pumpkin.

This whole process has gone as smoothly as Joe and I ever could have dreamed.  It really has been great.  One recent hiccup has been the cabinet design for the master bathroom.  Our sconces, sinks and plumbing were not lining up to provide us optimal cabinet space.  It was one step of the process that I thought would take us 20 minutes to talk about and ending up taking us several meetings and many hours.  And it still hasn’t been decided on…  Yikes!!!  Here are some drawings that were made during deliberations.  Wanted a memento.

So, as I said, this process has gone very smoothly.  It is just hard living in the house during construction.  It can be deafening at times.  I hope the workers wear ear plugs!!  But, they have been very considerate when I have clients come.  Still, it is always something…  Joe called me two Friday nights ago while I was at Verdae Park at a session and said that they had begun sanding the sheetrock.  Evidently there was sheetrock dust shooting through the plastic wall that separates us from the addition.  He ran around and closed doors, and threw sheets on everything.  We just had to dust everything that night and dust is still settling.  Here is some of the insulation in the addition holding all of the dust.  Yuck!!!

OK, so one morning this week I pulled myself away from work to spend some quality time with Louie.  I asked her what she wanted to do and she said that she wanted me to take her picture.  So, she dressed herself and away we went.  We had a lot of fun.  I have to say that she is so cute!!!!  ;)
Since we were having a “modeling session” I asked her to pose herself.  Here are two of the pictures she designed!!  ;)
